coincidence file > free for all

I haven't posted a coincidence file for a while now, but I have been experiencing wonderful coincidences all over the place. I was in Bondi Junction the other week and I walked past an apartment block where a friend lives. I was looking for the post office (which had relocated since I'd last been there). It occurred to me I could buzz my friend's apartment and ask her for directions, but it'd been a while since I'd seen her and I didn't remember her number off the top of my head. That night the phone rang and it was my friend calling...

Recently I walked down a street in Surry Hills that I hadn't been down for a while. I thought about a time when I'd visited a house in this street, which someone I knew had been house sitting. It's been quite a few years since I've seen the guy who was house sitting and I got to wondering where he might be. Today he drove past me and waved. I was surprised he even recognised me because it's been so long and I look different to when he last saw me. He's still just as handsome as ever...

I was at the Sydney Opera House today and went to the bar to buy some drinks. There was a woman at the bar also buying a drink. We were the only two there. I asked her name because she looked familiar and I thought she might be a friend of a friend of mine (someone I haven't seen for almost a year). It turns out she was indeed who I thought she was and then I told her I was meeting our mutual friend tomorrow evening. She said she was supposed to be meeting him tomorrow afternoon. We'd only just started chatting when her phone rang. She said, "I bet that's him" and... it was! A lil aside to this: last night I looked up Ann B Davis (Alice from the 'Brady Bunch') on imdb (she's been on my mind the last couple of daze - who knows why?). It just occurred to me that this woman I met at the Opera House bar played Alice in a stage version of the 'Brady Bunch' maybe 10 years ago (it was called the 'Real Live Brady Bunch' or something and was hilarious).

So there we have it. I love the way the universe works like this though I haven't got much idea about the significance behind these occurrences. When they happen I usually keep a record, but lately I haven't been so diligent. Now I'm thinking it'd be great to hear some of your coincidences, so if they happen to you please share them here. Once you start noticing them they tend to escalate... (so you've got no excuses!)

Hi Nash,
You certainly have had a great many “coincidence files” recently! It’s always enjoyable to read about the occult paths your life seems to take you down so frequently. I agree with you that we probably all experience them to a certain degree; it’s simply a matter of honing in our own individual “coincidence files” and trying to establish some logical conclusions from them.

This is another wonderful post!

Great to hear from you again Nash. It is amazing how the universe works isn't it. I reckon we are often not open enough to the 'coincidences' that are present, but it sounds like you have been lately. If you hadn't spoken to that woman you wouldn't have been aware that your mutual friend rang her at that precise moment.
What do they mean - I don't know that they have to mean anything other than 'open your eyes and see what's around'.
I do have a sort of coincidence story (although more of a small country town syndrome story!) which I am going to blog about in the next day or so.
You're no doubt also still as handsome as guy no. 2.
btw - a question - does the image you use on your blog represent you in any way?

Thanks Miss Litzi,
I hope you'll be able to share one of your own coincidences with us soon. What I love about them is you never know when they're going to happen...

Hi Campbell,
The experience at the bar yesterday was really amazing - it's all in the timing. I'm looking forward to reading your coincidence story. I love all that stuff. Thanks for the handsome remark - no arguments from me (though a slight deal of blushing)

btw, yes that pic is me; taken in Melbourne about 2 years ago by the friend I mentioned on your blog recently and then it was given the "Andy Warhol treatment" by my friend Sheila (the adorable slack arse blogger)

Hi Nash,
Yes, of course I’ll share any “coincidences” that should happen with you. When you least expect them, BOOM!!

I’d NO idea that your avatar was YOU. Aha, now I can see why you said you were sometimes mistaken for being Hispanic, Italian, Greek, etc. What exactly is the “Andy Warhol treatment” that Sheila did to the picture? Did it hurt??

Hi Miss Litzi,
Isn't that funny - I just assumed people would realise the pic was me (not that I assume you look like a teapot or Sheila looks like an ape! Ha!). I'm happy to report the "Warhol treatment" was painless and refers to the screenprint-type look of my avatar. I asked Sheila if she could doctor the original pic to make it look similar to the portraits Warhol did of Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe etc.

As I recently told my blog pal Marc, if you click on the pic and squint your eyes you'll not only get a headache, but also get a clearer image!

Boy, I guess I've practically blown my cover now!

Oh, I had another coincidence file today. Yesterday I was at a function where I bumped into a friend I haven't seen for a few months. We talked about a mutual friend of ours saying neither of us had seen him for ages. Well, I saw him today. It never ends...

Hi Nash,
I should have realized your avatar was YOU; TotalChaos uses a picture of himself for his and the teapot is my mirror image…however, Sheila? Nah! Is the “screenprint” “Warhol Treatment” similar to a Peter Max painting? I squinted and got a better image, but don’t know how clear or accurate it was…no headache though. You look like you belong on the stage or modeling Armani suits; no kidding. Do you think if any of your friends saw your avatar they’d recognize you? You might very well have blown your anonymity.

Good Lord, do your coincidence files ever stop? You’re absolutely amazing! Starting tomorrow, I’m going to pay attention to anything out of the ordinary; perhaps there’s more going on in my life than I’m aware of….then again, maybe not.

Are you still taking your Accounting Course? Numbers are kind of difficult to have coincidence files about…

Nash, I've been inspecting your avatar (thanks for the correct wording Miss Litzi - such a fount of wisdom and knowledge!) more closely now. I can see a chiseled face structure and imagining slightly wavy hair very open to having fingers run through it! Can't quite get a handle on your eyes however. Can we have some more information re their colour and depth? They look a light brown, but I imagine they're not. If I were in Sydney I would be very alert to who I might be sitting next to on the train!

You two (yes Miss Litzi n Campbell) - all this talk about my avatar from the two bloggers who continue to remain so anonymous. Ha! Topic now closed!

Miss Litzi, you spooked me (in a good way) with your comment about coincidences and numbers. I'll reveal all another time...

Campbell, you're more likely to sit next to me on a bus!

Hi Nash,
LOL! You honestly think I’m “anonymous”?? I’m the original “motor-mouth” and I’ve admitted I’m the spitting image of a teapot, which is better than looking like a tosspot, I suppose. I’m glad I “spooked” you in a positive way, though I’ve no idea what coincidences and numbers have to do with anything. However, I’ll keep tuned for your explanation.

Hi Campbell,
Thank you for your kind words, but I’m neither a fount of wisdom or knowledge. I’ve been loitering around “Bloggerville” for over 13-months and have picked up tidbits of information from a lot of very kind people. I became aware of the word “avatar” from my friend TotalChaos. It’s truly amazing how supportive most bloggers are towards one another.

I consider myself reprimanded Nash. that won't stop me from paying more attention next time I'm on a bus in Sydney. Although it sounds like you come to Melbourne frequently enough to warrant me being more aware on PT here.
Miss Litzi - yes there are many supportive bloggers in the blogosphere, and I reclon you're one of them.

Well, what a coincidence, Nash! Only this morning, I posted on my blog about a weird coincidence that happened to me last month in the little town of Mogo - but it was one of only two coincidences that happened in that same shop!

I was just getting ready to post it and was wondering if I should make it a second entry for today, or wait a few more minutes (till midnight) and make it tomorrow's post instead.

Then, coincidentally, I see your Coincidence Files entry. So come on over and check out my two entries for 21st May, 2007.

By the way, one of the first times I ran dry on ideas for blog entries, when I first started blogging, I threatened to tell a different weird coincidence story, and I've never actually written it up - mainly because it's genuine "Twilight Zone" material, and still spooks the hell out of me, but maybe I'll write up that one as well...

Hi Therin,
Thanks for your comments and link. It's amazing how these things tend to gain momentum once we start taking notice of them
