bullies
This is my first - and hopefully not my last - guest appearance on drift. They call me Gypsy and I am in a prison in the American state of Texas...
Sometimes I sit back and I contemplate why grown men feel like they have to be bullies and pick on weaker men who cannot fight or defend themselves. It's wrong. It doesn't matter if we're in prison or not - it still should not give grown men the right to act like children. A while back I had a gay friend who goes by the name Paloma. Well he got involved with what I like to call the "so-called straight man" (which is a person who was not gay before they came to prison yet who comes in here and starts messing with a gay man and still calls himself "straight". Yeah, right). Well this so-called straight man had a bad habit of trying to run the life of my friend Paloma and told Paloma he had no choice but to be with him - which is wrong. A person should not be able to force another person to be with him regardless if we gays are the minorities in prison or not
So as not to bore all you readers (and to make a long story short) I stepped in and made the so-called straight man leave Paloma alone - which I should not have had to do, but bullies will be bullies and most bullies truly are cowards. Now Paloma is free from the bonds of the bully even though the bully still gives us both evil looks. I just wish more people would stand up and put an end to the bullies who try to run most prisons

Hi Gypsy,
Welcome to the blog world! Nash informed all of us in cyberspace that he’s been corresponding with you for several months, and it’s wonderful to finally have “words” to go with your name.
A bully, according to the Merriam Webster dictionary is “a blustering browbeating person; one habitually cruel to others who are weaker”. Unfortunately, this is apparently the sort of individual your friend Paloma became entangled with. These vile individuals are present in every stratum of life. Bullies no doubt have inferiority complexes and need to reinforce their own sense of self-worth by pushing others around in order to feel “rough and tough”. I applaud you for stepping up to the plate for your friend and I hope you’re both returning the “evil eye”. Why aren’t the guards or wardens taking care of these kinds of problems???
I hope you continue to blog on “Drift”.
Hey Gypsy:
I've been there--I bet Drift told you about me.
I think the purpose of bullies, in the grand scheme of things, is for those who stand up to them to discover something important about themselves.
That said, Paloma probably needs to learn how to avoid dicey situations a bit more skillfully. Just a guess there.
Welcome to Australia!
Hi Gypsy,
Before I get into how I feel about bullies - can I tell you that every time I hear someone called 'Gypsy' - it reminds me of Gypsy Rose Lee - not the original Gypsy Rose Lee but the film made about her called Gypsy starring the lovely late Natalie Wood who was astounding in the role and remains to this day one of my favorite actresses. Her last film Brainstorm is one of her best.
Back to bullies. I think everyone has a memory of being bullied in some shape or form. Its awful. Some of us learn by it and make sure it doesn't happen again or to anyone around us. Others never learn, and they seem to be the ones that carry on this legacy through their adult years. Cheers to you for standing up for Paloma.
Sheila
Thanks for your comments everyone. I'll be sending this post n comments to Gypsy tomorrow so you can expect his response in a few weeks! As for my next post, stay tooned...
btw Gypsy, I hope it's not your last guest post either!
Hi Nash,
And I hope this wasn't YOUR last post. Christmas and your Birthday are soon approaching...
Your birthday Nash? Please, you must let us know.
Hi Campbell,
Nash's Birthday is December 29th.
Thanks Miss L., I'll remember that.
An almost New Year baby!
You two make me feel redundant (and you make me laugh)!
December 29th also happens to be Gypsy's birthday and Jude Law's birthday and Mary Tyler-Moore's birthday and Marianne Faithfull's birthday and on and on and on...
G’day Mates!
I’m glad I could help you out Campbell. I didn’t know if Nash had disappeared on us again, so I butted in.
Sorry if I made you feel redundant Nash, but you’ve been noticeably scarce recently. :) I hope you and Campbell will show up for the birthday party I’m hosting for you; there will be food, drink, balloons and gifts. Maybe you could bring your Tarot Cards….
Gypsy’s birthday being December 29th is really something for your Coincidence File!!
Hi Miss L.,
I'll definitely be there on the 29th, regardless if Nash is there or not. We can celebrate his life with him in absentia.
btw...Hi Nash!
Hi Campbell,
Alright! I’ll send you a reminder when I’ve gotten everything set up. There’s going to be food, drink, balloons, gifts and music…we can chat among ourselves while waiting for the guest of honor to arrive. The nice thing about a cyberspace party is that you don’t have to worry about what to wear. Please feel free to invite any of your blogger mates….
.
I’m going to have to factor in that you’re 19-hours ahead of me. YOUR December 29th begins at 5:00 a.m. on the 28th in California.
Oh of course I'll be there! Wouldn't miss it. I'll be the one in the birthday suit...
Hi Nash,
Wonderful! Will there be a video camcorder around so we can see your “birthday suit”? :)
Don't worry Miss L., I'll bring one of them!
Hi Campbell,
Great! I've got one too, so between us we should have it covered...to capture Nash uncovered??
Hi Nash,
MERRY CHRISTMAS!! I hope you have a wonderful day.....
Hey Nash, I hope you have a great day tomorrow, with whomever and wherever you spend it.
Hi Nash,
It's Christmas Day for you in Melbourne now...I sincerely hope you're having a marvelous day.
Please try to make it to your Birthday party on the 29th...
Peace.
Hi Litzi,
Thanks for your comments on "bullies". Yes, my friend and I did return the evil eye to his ex-boyfriend. You also asked why aren't the guards or wardens taking care of these kinds of problems. For one, they really don't care (and they don't like gays anyway) and for two, the guards on this unit are also known for beating inmates up. A few weeks ago an inmate tried to go to the guards for help, but instead of offering help the guards beat the inmate up. I also will be writing a part II to "bullies", which I was not expecting, but it should be in cyberspace soon
Hi Marc,
Thanks for your comments on "bullies". Yes, maybe my friend Paloma should learn how to avoid dicey situations a bit more skillfully, but in here that is easier said than done. In here this situation is an everyday thing
Hi Sheila,
Thank you for your comments on "bullies". I've also heard so much about you I feel as though I already know you. In here there will always be bullies who try to run this place. I just got into another ordeal with a very big bully the other week, which you will have to read about on "bullies II", which should be on drift soon
Hi Nash,
Well it looks like you get your wish for another guest post on drift with "bullies II"
Hi Gypsy,
Welcome back to Bloggerville and “Drift”! Nash said he was going to send our assorted comments to you; it was very nice of you to respond to each of us individually. Thanks!
Judging from your remarks about the guards, they sound like horrendously sadistic people. It’s too bad that the individuals who are “in charge” aren’t more responsive to the prisoners’ needs and problems instead of being hell-bent on behaving like Neanderthals. It must be exceedingly frustrating for the inmates to be so helpless against these barbaric creatures.
Happy (belated) Birthday! Nash mentioned that you two share the same birth date-December 29th.
I’ll be watching for part II of “Bullies”.
